Site Charities

Across Leonardo’s UK sites, employees are engaged in a range of charitable initiatives that support local and national charities, raising tens of thousands of pounds that benefit people in the UK and overseas.

In Basildon, staff fundraise for St Luke’s Hospice which provides specialist palliative care for people living in the Basildon and Thurrock districts with any life threatening, life limiting disease.

In the past, the Basildon site has also organised collections, quiz nights, bake sales, sporting events and a sky dive to support charities including Sport Relief, Help for Heroes, Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in NeedMuscular Dystrophy UK and Women’s Aid.

Basildon apprentices are focused on fundraising for Combat Stress, for whom they raised over £1,000 in 2019.

Our Edinburgh team is supporting LifeCare as its nominated charity. The organisation has over 80 years' experience supporting local older people living with dementia, poor health, isolation and loneliness. Each year, LifeCare helps over 1,000 older people and their carers to access the tools and support they need to remain living independently, feel supported in the home, eat well, live well, feel less isolated, have improved connections with others, and maintain mental and physical wellbeing.

Previously, our Edinburgh site was partnered with Harmeny Education Trust from 2019-2022, with employees raising over £62,000 during this time. From 2017-2019, we supported MND Scotland, with Edinburgh staff raising more than £14,000 during the partnership through a wide range of fundraising activities including bake sales, sponsored walks, a charity calendar, an annual Holyrood Fun Run, zip lining over the Clyde and pub quizzes.

Staff also support Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas by paying to wear their brightest and most outrageous Christmas jumpers to help raise funds for appeal.

In Farnham, the team raises money for the local Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, the only Hospice Care service for adult patients and their families, across the whole of West Surrey and North East Hampshire.

Other fundraising activities have included a cake sale and a member of staff and her son being sponsored to sleep rough for a night to raise money for Step by Step, a charity helping young people to sleep safer and give them a brighter future.

In Luton, our employees are fundraising for Cancer Research UK, the world's largest independent cancer research organisation.

During 2018-2019, staff in Luton raised over £20,000 for several charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Keech Hospice Care and Combat Stress through a variety of activities including a golf day, cake sales, quiz nights and football tournament.

Employees also contribute to charity through a payroll lottery where people opt in to donate some of their monthly wage in return for entry into a lottery each month. Half of the money donated goes to charity.

In Southampton, staff have organised go-karting, cycling, running, football, bowling and golf competitions, as well as quizzes to raise money for Carers in Southampton, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, and Macmillan Cancer Support.

In Yeovil, the team, led by our energetic apprentices and graduates, is raising funds for PROMISEworks to deliver inspirational mentoring for the most vulnerable, disaffected and disadvantaged young people in Somerset.

In recent years, Yeovil has previously raised tens of thousands of pounds for Yeovil Hospital Charity's Breast Cancer Unit Appeal, Mind in Somerset, Yeovil Opportunity Group and School in a Bag, which delivers rucksacks filled with stationery, learning resources and eating utensils to poor, orphan and disaster-affected children worldwide. Some of our trainees even visited a project in Bhotenamlang, Nepal, where money they had helped raise was towards funding the building of a school.
