Leonardo UK employees, families and supporters took part in a new challenge, ‘The World in a Week’, from 21-27 September 2020. Participants were encouraged to embrace their ‘Spirit of Challenge’ and circumnavigate the globe by together travelling a total distance of 24,901 miles (40,075km) over the course of one week.

Over the 7 days, participants of all abilities – including staff, AFPST athletes and other supporters – collectively cycled, run, walked and swum over 34,000km, despite the unpredictable weather conditions across the UK and in other parts of the world.

The ‘spirit of challenge’ comes from the inspiration and achievements of the athleteglobe icon with figures running, cycling, hiking, surfing and swimming round its of the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team (AFPST), and has seen Leonardo UK volunteers take on a variety of challenges over the last 10 years to raise funds for the military charity.

Given the circumstance of 2020, Leonardo was keen to find an activity where people from across its UK sites and members of the AFPST could take on a common challenge to raise awareness and funds for the charity that plays such a vital role in the recovery, transformation and personal freedom of wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans.

Most importantly, The World in a Week provided those taking part the opportunity to focus on their physical wellbeing, have fun and enjoy the satisfaction of achieving personal challenges, as well as contributing to a great cause.
