June

The action-packed month began with the unveiling of our new Leonardo UK website, and was followed up by Leonardo gaining official certification as an ‘Assured Service Provider’ on the National Cyber Security Centre's Cyber Security Consultancy framework.

During June, we also kicked off our UK-wide Robotic Games, with the first competition in Edinburgh seeing teams of young people testing their powerful and lightweight Rampaging Chariots in a series of challenges including assault course, sumo, tug of war and football.

We continued 2019’s momentum around establishing employee network groups, with the launch of our Carers Network in June. Run by a small number of employees with caring responsibilities, the Carers Network provides support to employees, raising awareness of the issues they face – from looking after elderly parents, unwell partners or friends, to caring for children with specific needs – and helping the company deliver its inclusion objectives.

There was no let-up in activity during the final week of June, with us celebrating International Women in Engineering Day (23 June), Reserves Day (26 June) and Armed Forces Day (29 June).

This year, International Women in Engineering Day was celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Women's Engineering Society’s creation, and we hosted 'Girls into Engineering' events across the UK to increase girls' confidence in the field of STEM in order to strengthen the future talent pipeline of female engineers.

As an active supporter of the UK Armed Forces, we recognise the immense contribution that our British Armed Forces make to the nation. It is therefore incumbent upon us to show our support to every single member of the Armed Forces, whether full-time or reservist, which is why we mark Armed Forces Day annually and pay tribute specifically to those Leonardo people who are serving reservists as well as working for the company. This commitment to our people and the wider Armed Forces has been recognised with us being awarded the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award.
