Occupational Health Manager

Meet Jane, Leonardo UK’s Occupational Health Manager. Having worked at the company for over 20 years, she has enjoyed opportunities to undertake international business travel and work with colleagues around the world on wellbeing initiatives. She is looking forward to driving a new electric car thanks to Leonardo’s new ‘Go Green Car Scheme’.

Who you are, how long have you worked at Leonardo and what is your role?

I am Jane Saunders. I am the UK Occupational Health Manager for Leonardo’s Electronics and Cyber businesses, having joined the company back in 2001.

Where did you join from and what attracted you to Leonardo?

I was working in the aerospace sector as an Occupational Health Manager. I was attracted to Leonardo as it is a global company with people at the heart of what they do which would, and did, lead to many opportunities to expand and develop my own knowledge and expertise, as well as significantly improving the health service to our employees. I am especially proud of the work we have done that has led to us as being one of the first companies to gain gold accreditation for Investors in People Wellbeing.

What do you like most about your job?

I truly love that every day is different and that there are so many opportunities to enhance yourself, career and contribution to the community too. I have had (pre-pandemic) opportunities to undertake international business travel, as well as international collaboration with wellbeing.

What do you enjoy about working at Leonardo?

Where do I begin? Seriously, Leonardo is a great company to work offering career development opportunities and fantastic benefits. I have taken advantage of the all-inclusive, monthly deduction car scheme which offers one of the cheapest and easiest ways to drive a brand-new electric car. Also over the past few years, we have really moved forwards with inclusion and diversity (I&D), featuring a number of focused Network Groups, and I'm proud to chair the Wellbeing network group. Along with our Custom Working policy, this approach to I&D provides the understanding and flexibility for people to determine how best they deliver their work, rather than being measured by their presence in an office.

What advice you would give someone considering joining Leonardo?

Look us up on social media, to find out more about us, our values and culture. You can also reach out to any of us on LinkedIn and we would happily tell you how life at Leonardo really is, including the challenges.

Why you would recommend Leonardo as a place to work?

The work can be challenging and very demanding, but also offers stimulating and fulfilling job satisfaction. There are so many opportunities for you to make your mark, be that questioning what/how we do things, to development opportunities, to social and community involvement. Bear in mind, I had previously never stayed longer than four years in a job…
