NIW 2020

25 September 2020

As part of Leonardo’s commitment to making inclusion an everyday reality, we are marking National Inclusion Week (NIW) from 28 September to 4 October 2020 with an exciting line-up of activities across our UK sites to continue to raise awareness of our Inclusion and Diversity programme.

Now in its 8th year, the theme for NIW 2020 is Each One, Reach One, focused on bringing people together to connect and ensure that wherever they are working, they feel included as part of a team and wider organisation.

Throughout the week, Leonardo is offering daily challenges to encourage our people to get involved and celebrate achievements which promote inclusivity and connections across the company.

Head of Inclusion and Diversity at Leonardo in the UK, Nerys Thomas, said: “We are very passionate about accelerating our progress with our Inclusion and Diversity agenda. We have a brand new I&D plan for 2020 and beyond that we believe will ensure Leonardo is a welcoming, attractive, flexible and inclusive place to work for everyone.”

Monday will start with employees being encouraged to inspire at least one other colleague – such as a line manager, people from other departments, those in different locations or even someone they often say ‘hi’ to in passing but rarely have the time to have a conversation with – to take part in one of Leonardo’s NIW activities or challenges.

On Tuesday, Inclusivi-tea is a prompt and an opportunity to maintain important working relationships with colleagues by taking a break together over a drink (either onsite or virtually) to find out what they have both been doing inside and outside work. Look out for photos on Leonardo’s social media channels as staff enjoy a brew together!

Given the change in working circumstances over the past six months, and the lack of opportunities for informal workplace chats, Wednesday’s challenge is to set up an informal occasion and invite colleagues – online, offline or outdoors (all within a COVID-safe environment) – to recreate traditional ‘corridor conversations’. This is particularly important for people living and working alone, giving them the opportunity to connect with people and make a positive impact and big difference to their day.

Thursday provides a forum for discussion between employees and leaders across Leonardo to initiate a conversation about inclusion and ensure it permeates the business’s new way of ‘custom working’, while Friday is about looking forward and making inclusion a reality 365 days a year.

Throughout the week, there will also be virtual drop-in sessions with each of Leonardo’s Network Groups, to learn more about each of them and how they each embrace and promote inclusion.
