Development
Programme: Stage 1

The first 12 weeks at a glance

During this initial 12-week placement stage, Leonardo supports its returners in a variety of ways.

A chart of the first 12 weeks of the STEM Returners programme

Induction

STEM Returners experience the Leonardo UK induction online individually, meeting as a cohort during week 1 to gain an overview of the development programme and networking with other Returners for the first time.

You will be introduced to our Network Groups who will be able to support the Returners, if required.

You will be assigned the 12 e-learning modules, each of which will be 45 minutes.

You will be invited to virtual classrooms designed to provide an overview of each of our Lines of Business.

Mentoring & Networking

Your mentor will be provided by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) for as long as you would like their support.

You will also have touch points with the team ‘Afternoon Tea with L&D’, while a online Community Page will feature an area for STEM Returners to share their experiences.

After the 12-week placement, in instances when the Returner is offered a permanent role, you can choose to be paired with an internal mentor from within the business to continue your journey and to work towards Professional Registration, where appropriate.

Bespoke Development

During the placement, Returners benefit from a blend of bespoke and cohort-wide development. The bespoke element considers the individual needs of each Returner, as well as the specific role requirements, and will mostly be delivered through on-the-job training and self-directed e-learning. Niche technical training will also be provided, if required.

Cohort-wide Development

This is delivered through on-demand e-learning modules that is available to Leonardo employees and curated into a curriculum called ‘STEM Returners’. It contains:

  • 12 e-learning modules usually assigned at induction, including: Welcome to Leonardo, Working from Home, Learning and Change Management, Our People, Working in an IPT, Compliance modules etc. These are 45 minutes each and staggered weekly.
  • Lunch and Learn sessions are also offered, covering topics including ‘What’s my style?’ communicating your message, listening skills and how to manage your performance. There are also supporting articles that focus on having a confident start to life at Leonardo. Each session is 45 minutes.

Role Objectives & On-the-job Training

You will be set objectives for the 12 week placement, which is designed to provide clarity on what is expected from you as a Returner. To supplement this, we will define specific on-the-job training required for the role.
