  • The Green Data Center, the only one of its kind in Italy, will occupy an area of around 2000 m2, contributing to the security of this critical national infrastructure
  • The system will ensure operational continuity, including Disaster Recovery of the IT services provided by the Government Printing Office and Mint
  • The latest generation of 'green' solutions was also introduced, such as air-to-air cooling systems for the Data Hall and Rotary UPS systems for energy continuity

Leonardo, through its subsidiary Vitrociset, has been awarded the tender called by the Italian Government Printing Office and Mint for the supply and commissioning of a Green Data Center (GDC) solution for around EUR 11 million. The contract confirms the Group's ability to develop innovative solutions for the security of critical infrastructures.

The new system will host the equipment necessary to ensure operational continuity including Disaster Recovery of the IT services provided by the Government Printing Office and Mint. The Green Data Center will be the first of its kind in Italy, occupying an area of around 2000 m2 at the Government Printing Office and Mint’s site in Foggia. Its features will be such as to obtain the Uptime Institute’s international TIER IV certification.

Vitrociset's Green Data Center solution has been designed to ensure that the infrastructure is solid, modular and scalable, able to manage and support the future IT needs of the Government Printing Office and Mint linked to the increase in managed data, the increasing presence of high-density x86 blade servers and storage devices that result in higher energy consumption.

Vitrociset will use the latest generation of ‘green’ systems, such as air-to-air cooling systems for the Data Hall and Rotary UPS systems to improve energy efficiency. The infrastructure will be housed in a prefabricated structure, arranged in an L shape on two floors, with a control room, crisis room, technical offices, break area, warehouse, and stage area.
