Sustainability: Building
a future for everyone

Leonardo integrates sustainability into all aspects of our business, decisions, initiatives and projects to create long-term value and generate positive economic, social and environmental impacts for the company and our stakeholders.

Our mission and purpose are to:

"Contribute to the world's progress and safety by delivering meaningful and innovate technological solutions, and to be the international Aerospace, Defence and Security company that best enables its customers' success, by thinking creatively and working with passion."

To achieve these objectives, Leonardo transforms and enriches the financial, human, operational and technological resources available to it and remains committed to the continuous improvement of our business practices and ensuring they are fair and consistent with our core values:

  • Offering technological solutions for protecting society and the environment
  • Leveraging our key competencies, know-how and passion
  • Shaping the future from the perspective of open innovation
  • Delivering with a customer-centric mindset
  • Growing with our suppliers and our territories
  • Conducting business in a responsible way
  • Implementing transparent, inclusive and meritocratic people management
  • Promoting respect and valuing diversity
  • Reducing environmental impacts of our operations
  • Creating value for all our stakeholders

To achieve these objectives, our sustainability strategy focuses on our three core pillars of People, Planet and Prosperity. Through these, Leonardo aims to transform and enrich the financial, human, operational and technological resources available to it, and is committed to the continuous improvement of our business practices, ensuring they are fair and consistent with our core values:

People

People drive our business forward. At Leonardo, we recognise that individually and collectively, the actions we take have a lasting impact on our environment. Sustainability and continuous improvement are essential for ongoing success, securing and innovating the future. We identify and invest in future skills and key technologies to better our local communities and ourselves.

Planet

Planet health is now an acknowledged crisis. Tackling climate change is a pressing concern for all of us and Leonardo is committed to reducing our environmental impact through cutting our carbon emissions, seeking innovative solutions and reducing energy use through renewable sources. We are also looking to how our products, components and services can enable greater efficiencies while increasing effectiveness.

Prosperity

Prosperity will rest on our ability to create sustainable technology and will include the innovation of new products and technologies that will future-proof our industry. At Leonardo, we will continue to invest in digitalisation and advanced processing capacities to enable us to rise to this challenge.

A very important strand of our sustainability activity will be in supporting and mentoring an ethical supply chain – this doesn’t just increase reliability; it provides us with an opportunity to live out our values through ethical business beyond the walls of our company. We will continue to strengthen our bonds with the local communities in which we operate, making real contributions to their wellbeing, future prospects and prosperity.

Suppliers – a significant part of our success

Maintaining Leonardo's healthy and productive relationships with all our suppliers is critical to our continued success. We are always looking for additional suppliers and partners who share our principles of integrity, transparency and trust, all of which contributes to ensuring the company's operational excellence.

A Strong and Diverse UK Supply Chain

Leonardo's seven major sites across the UK bring investment into their respective local economies and wider region through strong links with supply chain companies in the surrounding areas. Annually, we spend approximately £600m with over 2,100 companies – two thirds of whom are SMEs – in our UK supply chain across our Helicopters, Electronics and Cyber divisions.
